Last month, as I ventured coast to coast, one of our stops consisted of sleeping in a yurt in the middle of Mesa Verde National Park. I had no idea what a yurt was or what to expect. I'm pretty sure I had no idea it had an outhouse and not a real bathroom until we were pulling up. I'm not really the outdoorsy type but I am always down for trying new things. so I stayed in a yurt.
Thats the yurt. right up there. and past that little green thing in the corner was our very own outhouse. it was actually very cool and something I think everyone should experience. our yurt had a glass dome ceiling and being in Colorado you can literally every star in galaxy. It was indescribable.
One thing I was not prepared for was the darkness and the howling. I'm not sure if you've experienced extreme darkness but in the middle of nowhere in the mountains in colorado is as dark as it gets. We arrived at the yurt at night and could not see anything. We thought we were in a forrest because of all the trees on the drive in but then we wake up to this outside the door and were pretty much floored.
below is a great shot of me standing outside of our yurt, contemplating. there's not much to do out there except stare and contemplate. and obviously numerous adventurous ~deserty~ photo shoots.
